What is AISDV?

AISDV stands for Al-Anon Information Service of the Delaware Valley, Inc.

It is an Al-Anon Information Service (AIS) established by ten Al-Anon Districts in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region—this includes Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 19, 20, 31, and 32. The AISDV amplifies the message of Al-Anon across its groups and districts (the area it serves).

What is an Al-Anon Information Service?

An Al-Anon Information Service (AIS), sometimes called an ‘Intergroup’, is a local service established by one or more groups or districts located close enough to one another for easy access and communication. An AIS exists to aid the groups it serves in the common purpose of carrying the Al-Anon message to the suffering families and friends of alcoholics.

The specific purposes of AISDV are to:

    Unite Purpose

    To encourage unity of purpose and growth of individual Al-Anon groups in the service area, the Greater Delaware Valley of Pennsylvania.

    Provide Information

    To provide information and serve as a resource to anyone seeking help with problems connected with an alcoholic relative or friend.

    Centralize Communication

    To serve as the communications center for the individual member groups with respect to matters of policy, publicity and interest.

    Promote Legacies

    To promote the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of Al-Anon in the service area.

    Maintain a Central Office

    To establish and maintain a central business office as a clearing house for Al-Anon activities.

What is an Area Assembly?

Assembly is a service body within Al-Anon’s service structure. In Pennsylvania, our Area Assembly is the primary service body for Al-Anon groups throughout Pennsylvania (PA). It consists of 32 districts across 5 regional sectors of the Commonwealth of PA, and serves as the link between local groups and Al-Anon’s World Service Conference. Our Area Assembly provides a way for PA groups to participate in decisions that affect Al-Anon throughout the Area and the worldwide fellowship.

Each Al-Anon group may elect a Group Representative (GR) to attend Assembly meetings, share the group’s voice, and vote on its behalf. At these meetings, trusted servants provide reports, members discuss Area business, and the Delegate shares information from the World Service Conference. The Assembly also elects the Area Delegate and other Area officers.

Although voting is reserved for those serving in designated roles, all Al-Anon members are welcome to attend most Assembly meetings as observers. Attending an Assembly is a wonderful way to learn how Al-Anon’s service structure works, connect with members from across Pennsylvania, and see how the fellowship’s principles guide decision-making through group conscience.
